19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on court had led some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
